Little Italy Townhouse Renovation: A Decade-Long Dream Realized
Located at 1250 W Westgate Terrace in Chicago's vibrant Little Italy / University Village neighborhood, this townhouse renovation represents the culmination of a homeowner's decade-long vision. Just steps from Taylor Street's famous restaurants and walking distance to UIC and Rush University Medical Center, this Westgate Terrace townhouse was ready for its transformation.
"During our initial meeting, I listened to their remodeling vision and sources of inspiration. I noticed their appreciation for pop art culture reflected in their current decor, which immediately caught my attention."
The Design Phase: Collaborative Excellence
Our clients came prepared with a folder of inspiration images showing different kitchen colors and styles. Working collaboratively, we developed a design that honored their unique aesthetic while maximizing functionality. The decision to use custom green sage cabinet doors on semi-custom cabinets emerged from this collaborative process.
Kitchen Transformation
The kitchen renovation was comprehensive and transformative. We removed the non-bearing wall to create an open-concept layout, immediately making the space feel larger and allowing natural light to flow throughout the home. All kitchen soffits above the cabinets were eliminated, and electrical conduit was safely removed.
We completed all rough plumbing and electrical work in compliance with Chicago city code requirements, installed new drywall throughout the kitchen, and painted the entire first level. Semi-custom cabinets with custom green doors were installed alongside MSI countertops and a modern backsplash tile.
Hallway Modernization
The hallway presented unique challenges: outdated floor tile and a non-functional closet. Previous water leak damage had compromised the subflooring, requiring complete replacement. Our designer reimagined the hallway with elegant wall paneling and reintroduced the green sage color for a cohesive look throughout the first floor.
Hardwood Floor Refinishing
The existing hardwood floors were in good condition, so we refinished them with a new stain color to coordinate with the updated kitchen and hallway flooring. The results were excellent - exactly what the client envisioned.
