2026 Pricing

What do custom cabinets cost in Hinsdale?

Our 2026 pricing, the same numbers we quote in Hinsdale. Cabinetry is usually the largest single line in a kitchen, which is why it is priced by the foot and not by the room.

Per linear foot$500–$1,200True custom, built to the room · semi-custom $300–$600
Full kitchen$35K–$80KA complete run of custom kitchen cabinetry, installed
Built-in wallfrom $6,000A bookcase wall · entertainment centre about $10,000
Bar or closet$12K–$45KWalk-in closet system about $12,000 · full bar to $45,000

Cabinetry is quoted per linear foot because a 14-foot galley and a 34-foot kitchen with an island are different projects. See Hinsdale remodeling costs and Village permit data →

What kind of cabinetry do we build in Hinsdale?

Village Rules

Do I need a permit to remodel in Hinsdale?

Usually yes — the Village of Hinsdale lists remodels, renovations and alterations as permit work, and only cosmetic jobs like painting, trim and flooring are exempt. Two things set the calendar before a wall comes down, and one thing you should ask every contractor for.

When you need a permit

The Village lists remodels, renovations and alterations as permit work, along with additions, new construction, foundation repairs, decks and patios, driveways, fences, generators, solar panels, pools, water heaters, water service work and the demolition of any structure.

No permit is needed for one-for-one replacement of single-family windows, doors, siding and roofing, or for painting, millwork and trim, or flooring and refinishing.

Landmarked homes

Hinsdale lists 25 designated landmarks — 20 individual properties plus five on the National Register. A landmarked home needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission before exterior work, and it has to be in hand before the permit issues.

Interior-only work on a house that is not landmarked does not go through that review. We check the designation before the design is finalised.

Ask any contractor for these three

The Village registers general contractors, and the bar is public:

  • Current Village of Hinsdale registration — $250 a year, $125 after July 1
  • A signed $10,000 surety bond for the full licence year
  • A certificate of insurance at $500,000 / $1,000,000 combined single limit
  • The Village named as certificate holder and additional insured

FAQ

Cabinets Built for Your Hinsdale House: Common Questions

Custom cabinetry runs $500 to $1,200 per linear foot installed, and a full kitchen of custom cabinets runs $35,000 to $80,000, based on our 2026 pricing across more than 500 completed projects. Semi-custom, where you change depth and finish but not the box, runs $300 to $600 per linear foot.
Semi-custom starts from a manufacturer's box and lets you change depth, door style and finish, at $300 to $600 per linear foot. True custom is drawn and built for your room to the sixteenth of an inch, at $500 to $1,200 per linear foot, which is what lets cabinetry meet an old Hinsdale wall that is not square.
A built-in bookcase wall starts around $6,000 and an entertainment centre around $10,000, installed and finished. A walk-in closet system runs about $12,000 and a full bar with wine storage reaches $45,000. All of them are drawn for the room they go in rather than assembled from stock parts.
In Illinois. We draw the cabinetry, the shop builds it here, and our own crews install it, so one company is answerable for the drawing, the box and the fit. It also means no import tariff on the cabinetry and a lead time we control rather than one a distributor quotes us.
No. We do not offer cabinet painting or cabinet refacing. We build and install new cabinetry, because a refaced door on a tired box gives you the old layout, the old interiors and the old hinges with a new front, and that is not work we are willing to warranty for two years.
Cabinetry on its own usually does not, but the work around it often does. The Village of Hinsdale lists remodels, renovations and alterations as permit work, so once plumbing, electrical or a wall is involved the project needs a permit. Millwork and trim alone are listed as needing none.
Drawings and selections come first, then the shop builds. The build slot is booked when the drawings are approved, which is why we finalise cabinetry early in the design rather than late. On our S. Bodin Street kitchen in Hinsdale, the whole project ran six to eight weeks from demolition to done.
Stock cabinets bought off a shelf are cheaper per box, and for a square room with standard sizes they are a fair answer. Built cabinetry wins where the room is not standard: an older Hinsdale kitchen with a chimney breast, a sloped ceiling or a wall that is out of square wastes filler strips and dead corners with stock boxes.
Warm woods have taken over from all-white: white oak and walnut in a natural or lightly stained finish, usually paired with a darker painted island. The other shift is interiors — clients now spend on pull-outs, spice storage and appliance garages, because that is what changes daily life rather than the photograph.
For most kitchens the value sits in semi-custom, at $300 to $600 per linear foot, where you change door style, depth and finish but keep a standard box. Spend the step up to custom, $500 to $1,200, where the room is irregular or where you want interiors built around what you actually store.
